COUNCIL COMMITTEES

Clark Fork River Voluntary Nutrient Reduction Program (VNRP) Committee
Oversees implementation of specific measures being undertaken by point and nonpoint sources to reduce nutrient pollution and nuisance algae problems in the Clark Fork River. The goal is to meet the in-stream targets for nitrogen and phosphorus in the VNRP by 2008. The group includes all the major point-source dischargers along the Clark Fork River in Montana.

Water Quality Monitoring Committee
Oversees the implementation of a comprehensive three-state water quality monitoring program to provide long-term trend analysis, to provide reliable data for decision making, and to evaluate the effectiveness of the management plan in restoring and protecting water quality. The group also oversees the work of the monitoring program contractor, HydroSolutions. The group distributes an annual report each spring and meets several times a year as needed. See Monitoring Program for more information.

Pend Oreille Water Festival Committee
Coordinates an annual water festival, a comprehensive enviromental education program for all fifth-grade students in Bonner County, ID (both public and private schools). Students learn about water and other natural resources in the Clark Fork-Pend Oreille Watershed through a celebratory, hands-on program that includes a classroom watershed education trunk, in-class visits, and an outdoor field trip where students rotate through five different, themed instructional stations. Meets monthly from October through June. Members include Bonner Soil & Water Conservation District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and local citizen volunteers. Contact us if you are interested in volunteering or being a part of this yearly event.

Pend Oreille Lake Nearshore Committee
Focuses on implementation of a lake management plan to protect water quality from local sources of nutrient pollution. The goal is to meet in-lake and nearshore TMDL targets for phosphorus. Members include primary local stakeholder groups such as county, cities, sewer districts, citizens in the lake's watershed, and state and federal agencies.  Meets monthly.
